  3.                     CATALIST 1.0 Installation
  4.

  6. SECTION 1 -- CATALIST and ToolBook.
  7.  
  8. Note: It is recommended that you print this short document before
  9. you begin installing CATALIST.
  10.  
  11. CATALIST is a ToolBook book.  It was written using Asymetrix's
  12. ToolBook Version 1.5 for Windows.  You need ToolBook 1.5 or Runtime
  13. ToolBook 1.5* to run CATALIST.  Runtime ToolBook 1.5 is included in
  14. the FULLCAT.EXE archive.
  15.  
  16. If you already have ToolBook 1.5, you do not need most of the files
  17. in the FULLCAT.EXE archive and you do not need to use the install
  18. program.  If you have ToolBook 1.5 installed, but don't know how to
  19. install the CATALIST.TBK and CATALIST.ICO files, get the CAT10.EXE
  20. file instead of the FULLCAT.EXE file and follow the instructions in
  21. the README.TXT that comes in the CAT10.EXE archive.
  22.  
  23.    * If you are familiar with Macintosh software you can compare
  24.      ToolBook to Hypercard and CATALIST to a commercially produced
  25.      Hypercard stack.

  28. SECTION 2 -- Installing CATALIST 1.0 and Runtime ToolBook 1.5.
  29.  
  30. The installation process for CATALIST is quite simple and should
  31. only take you a few minutes.  Just follow these steps:
  32.  
  33. 1.   Extracting FULLCAT.EXE should have produced ten files:
  34.  
  35.      README.TXT (this file)
  36.      INSTALL.EXE (the CATALIST installer)
  37.      INSTALL.INF (installer data file)
  38.      CATALIST.TBK (the CATALIST 1.0 application)
  39.      CATALIST.ICO (the CATALIST 1.0 icon)
  40.      TBOOK.EXE (Runtime ToolBook 1.5)
  41.      TBKNET.EXE (ToolBook network file)
  42.      TBKBASE.DLL (dynamic link library)
  43.      TBKCOMP.DLL (dynamic link library)
  44.      TBKUTIL.DLL (dynamic link library)
  45.  
  46.      Use File Manager or DOS to create a temporary directory on the
  47.      same drive on which CATALIST is to be located.  This directory
  48.      will be used to run the install program and will later be
  49.      deleted.  In our examples, we will use the directory name
  50.      C:\CATSETUP as the temporary directory.
  51.  
  52. 2.   Using file manager or DOS, copy the ten files you extracted
  53.      from the FULLCAT.EXE archive to the temporary directory.
  54.

  56. 3.   If you do not already have Windows running, start it and open
  57.      Program Manager.
  58.  
  59. 4.   Select File from the Program Manager menu bar.
  60.  
  61. 5.   Select Run from the File menu to display the Run dialogue box.
  62.  
  63. 6.   Type the path and filename of the CATALIST installer in the
  64.      Command Line: text box.  For standard installations this
  65.      should be:  C:\CATSETUP\INSTALL
  66.  
  67. 7.   Click OK to run the CATALIST installer.
  68.  
  69. 8.   Click Continue to accept the default C:\TOOLBOOK directory, or
  70.      type a different directory name for CATALIST to use, then
  71.      click Continue.
  72.  
  73. 9.   Click OK to dismiss the CATALIST installer when installation
  74.      is complete.
  75.  
  76. 10.  The ToolBook group will appear in Program Manager.
  77.  
  78. 11.  The CATALIST and ToolBook icons will appear in the ToolBook
  79.      group.

  81. 12.  Once CATALIST is installed, use DOS or File Manager to delete
  82.      all the files in the temporary C:\CATSETUP directory, then
  83.      delete the directory itself.

  85. This concludes CATALIST installation.  To start CATALIST, double-
  86. click the CATALIST icon.

  88. Once you have started CATALIST, please click the About CATALIST
  89. button and read the About box for more information.

  92. SECTION 3 -- Using CATALIST.
  93.  
  94. Actions in CATALIST are initiated in one of three ways:
  95.  
  96. 1)   A single click on a button activates the function on the
  97.      button label.  All buttons are shadowed to distinguish them
  98.      from fields.
  99.  
  100. 2)   A single click on a hotword will reveal the hotword's subfield
  101.      or library page.  The pointer will change to a small window
  102.      when it is over a hotword.
  103.  
  104. 3)   A double click on a field will dismiss that field.  This is
  105.      used to dismiss the About Box, the Telnet escape key field,
  106.      the library system instruction fields, and unwanted
  107.      geographical search fields.
  108.  
  109. The Notebook can be used to type personal notes or to store
  110. clipboard entries from library screens, word-processors, or any
  111. other source.  Notebook entries can likewise be clipped and pasted
  112. to word-processors etc.  See your Windows documentation for
  113. instructions on how to use the clipboard.
  114.  
  115. Context sensitive help is available at any time.  Just select
  116. CATALIST Help... from the Help menu.
